Heating & Air Conditioning Technology

This is a comprehensive training program is Heating and Air Conditioning Repair and Maintenance. It covers the basic principles of refrigeration and air conditioning. It emphasizes the understanding of electrical systems and covers major system components, testing equipment, troubleshooting procedures, types of refrigerant, refrigerant handling, and maintenance and repair of heating systems.

Program Descriptions

A/C 100 FUNDAMENTALS OF REFRIGERATION (24 HRS)
The basic fundamentals that apply to mechanical refrigeration. The functions of compressors, condensers, receivers, evaporators, metering devices, basic cycle controls, accessories & refrigerants.

A/C 101 ELECTRICITY FOR AIR CONDITIONING (24 HRS)
This course deals in detail with both basic fundamentals of electricity & advanced electricity. This will include electron theory, OHM's law, power equations & Kirchoff's law relating to resistance, current, voltage & power in series & parallel circuits. The course will also include single-phase meter theory and electrical components used in A/C technology.

A/C 102 ELECTRIC HEAT & COOL (24 HRS)
This course combines A/C 100 and A/C 101 theory in "hands-on" wiring and running of actual units. Students will use various wiring diagrams to wire A/C units. Ambient charging procedures, refrigerant recovery and evacuation will also be taught.

A/C 105 HEAT PUMPS (24 HRS)
This course is an introduction to heat pumps & their operation. It will cover various defrost methods including time temperature, demand, air switch & other defrost controls. Superheat charging is also introduced.

A/C 104 GAS HEAT (24 HRS)
This course covers gas furnaces and gas packs. The nature of gas combustion, gas burners, gas valves, pilots, ignition systems, and operating controls. Welding methods are practiced in this course, as well as the proper method for compressor change-out.

A/C 115 TROUBLESHOOTING (24 HRS)
This advanced course will cover recommended service & diagnosis procedures for air conditioning systems. This will include general troubleshooting procedures for both mechanical & electrical systems.

Total Clock Hours approximately 144 hours.
12 weeks of training.
