We offer an extensive range of courses spanning 12 weeks, totaling 192 hours of intensive hands-on, real-world training. Ten courses take you from refrigeration fundamentals through commercial equipment, in sequence:
The refrigeration cycle from the ground up: heat transfer, pressure–temperature relationships, compressors, condensers, metering devices, and evaporators. You learn to read gauges and understand what a system is telling you before you ever open a panel.
Electrical theory applied to HVAC: circuits, loads, switches, relays, capacitors, and contactors. You practice reading wiring diagrams and using a multimeter safely on live equipment.
Packaged and split electric systems: sequencers, heat strips, blower assemblies, and thermostat wiring. Bench work on package-unit wiring and troubleshooting modules.
How a heat pump reverses the cycle: reversing valves, defrost controls, and auxiliary heat. Diagnosis of common heat-pump complaints in heating and cooling modes.
Gas furnace sequence of operation, ignition systems, venting, and combustion safety — plus torch work: brazing and soldering copper line sets to industry standards.
The capstone of the A/C series: instructors bug live systems and you find the faults, using a diagnose-before-you-repair method that follows the logic of a real service call.
Where residential ends and commercial begins: reach-in coolers, condensing units, defrost strategies, and the components specific to commercial systems.
Low-temp applications and their special demands: refrigerants, superheat and subcooling at low temperatures, and freezer-specific diagnosis.
Walk-in boxes end to end — evaporators, condensing units, door heaters, drain lines, and the service procedures restaurants and resorts depend on.
Ice production, harvest cycles, water treatment, and cleaning procedures on the machines found in nearly every bar, restaurant, and hotel in Las Vegas.

Federal law requires EPA Section 608 certification for anyone who works with refrigerants. It’s built into this program: you study the material with us, then take your proctored exam at our Las Vegas campus. QTC is an EPA-approved testing organization, and your exam is part of your program — not an extra bill after graduation.
Every week pairs classroom instruction with bench and equipment time. By the end of the program you will have personally practiced: recovering, evacuating, and charging refrigerant to manufacturer specifications; measuring superheat and subcooling and using them to diagnose; brazing and pressure-testing copper line sets; wiring package units from the diagram, then finding the faults an instructor planted; reading schematics on residential splits, heat pumps, and gas furnaces; checking capacitors, contactors, relays, and motors with a meter; setting and troubleshooting defrost cycles on commercial boxes; and cleaning, servicing, and diagnosing ice machines. These are the tasks that fill a technician’s work order — practiced on your own assigned equipment until they’re habits.

Working as a technician — HVAC technicians in Nevada work for licensed contractors; completing a hands-on program and holding EPA 608 prepares you to apply for entry-level technician positions.
Owning your own company later — running an HVAC business in Nevada requires a C-21 contractor license from the Nevada State Contractors Board, which calls for years of documented field experience. Training is the first step on that path.
Las Vegas runs on climate control — twelve months a year, at a scale few cities match. The skills taught in this program are the ones used daily in residential service and installation, commercial and resort property maintenance, hospital and school facilities work, and commercial refrigeration for restaurants, groceries, and bars. Typical roles in the field include HVAC service technician, installer, maintenance technician, and commercial refrigeration technician.

EPA 608 comes in Type I (small appliances), Type II (high-pressure systems, like most residential and commercial A/C), Type III (low-pressure chillers), and Universal (all three). The program prepares you for the exam so you can test for the certification level your work requires.

Technicians work under licensed contractors, so you don’t need your own contractor license to start working. You do need EPA 608 for refrigerant work — included in the program. A Nevada C-21 contractor license only comes into play if you later open your own company.

The A/C series (101–106) covers residential and light-commercial heating and cooling; the R series (113–116) covers commercial refrigeration — walk-ins, low-temp systems, and ice machines. You complete both in the 12 weeks, which is what lets you work on the commercial equipment Las Vegas runs on.
