The Refrigeration Courses
Four dedicated courses — 48 clock hours — focused entirely on commercial refrigeration systems:
R-113 — Introduction to Commercial Refrigeration
Refrigeration cycle deep-dive for commercial equipment: system components, refrigerants, temperature control technologies, and how commercial systems differ from comfort cooling.
R-114 — Low-Temperature Refrigeration
Low-temp applications — freezers and below-freezing systems: defrost strategies, evaporator design, and the diagnostics unique to low-temperature work.
R-115 — Walk-In Freezers
Service and maintenance of walk-in coolers and freezers: wiring, piping, door and gasket systems, and troubleshooting the equipment every restaurant and grocery depends on.
R-116 — Ice Machines
Diagnosis, service, and preventive maintenance of commercial ice machines — a specialty in constant demand across every bar, restaurant, and resort in Las Vegas.
Built on the HVAC foundation
Refrigeration technicians live on the fundamentals — electricity, airflow, refrigerant handling, brazing, troubleshooting. That’s why the refrigeration courses sit inside the full 12-week program, after A/C 101–106: Fundamentals of Refrigeration, Electricity for Air Conditioning, Electric Heat & Cool, Heat Pumps, Gas Heat and Brazing, and Troubleshooting. EPA Section 608 Certification — Included
Federal law requires EPA Section 608 certification for anyone who works with refrigerants — there is no refrigeration career without it. It’s built into this program: you study the material with us, then take your proctored exam at our Las Vegas campus. QTC is an EPA-approved testing organization, and your exam is part of your program — not an extra bill after graduation.
What You’ll Practice in the Lab
Every week pairs classroom instruction with bench and equipment time. On the refrigeration side, you will have personally practiced:
- Recovering, evacuating, and charging refrigerant to manufacturer specifications
- Diagnosing low-temperature systems with pressures, superheat, and subcooling
- Servicing walk-in cooler and freezer systems — electrical, piping, and defrost
- Tearing down, cleaning, and troubleshooting commercial ice machines
- Brazing and pressure-testing copper line sets
- Reading wiring diagrams and tracing electrical faults in refrigeration controls
REFRIGERATION TECH PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Morning, afternoon, and evening classes available — choose the time slot that fits your schedule. All classes are 4 hours a day, Monday–Thursday, so the program works around a job. The refrigeration courses run as part of the 12-week HVAC/R sequence, with new cohorts starting every 6 weeks.

That one number covers the complete 12-week HVAC/R program including all four refrigeration courses — tuition, registration fee, books, lab materials, EPA 608 exam, and a professional tool kit that’s yours to keep. Some Las Vegas programs list $16,500 or more in tuition alone — before tools, exam fees, or books.

- Pass a simple mechanical aptitude test for those beyond compulsory school age
Taking the refrigeration courses on their own requires completion of our Heating and Air Conditioning program or equivalent field experience — ask admissions about testing out.

Where Refrigeration Skills Are Used in Las Vegas
Every casino kitchen, resort buffet line, grocery store, convenience chain, bar, and stadium concession in the valley runs refrigeration around the clock. The skills in this program are used daily in supermarket rack systems and display cases, restaurant walk-ins and reach-ins, ice machine service routes, food distribution cold storage, and the commercial refrigeration side of HVAC contracting.
